There
is no place in India, which appears more to the imagination of poets
and painters, travelers and writers than Udaipur. The lovely lake
side capital of Mewar, by reason of its romance and beauty and its
remarkable past bristling with episodes of heroism and splendor.
Udaipur, the enchanting city of Dawn, looms up like a vision in
white. Surrounded by hills and mountains and set on the edge of
three lakes which give on to a fertile plain, it is bewitching in
all its details-narrow streets lined by vivid colored stalls,
gardens, temples and palaces-every feature, mirrored in the placid
blue water of lake Pichola.

CITY PALACE
The city palace complex is a huge structure consisting of several
palaces. It forms a single façade overlooking the Pichola Lake.
Built by successive kings, the additions so carefully planned that
it is difficult to believe it was not conceived as one. The whole
building is in soft cream color, its massive towers crowned with
cupolas. The inlaid mirror work, the rows of various themes painted
in miniature style, the intricately carved peacocks in fine mosaic,
the beautifully laid out gardens and fountains are worth viewing.
LAKE PALACE (JAG MANDIR)
Better known as Lake Palace, built on one of the islands of Lake
Pichola, served as a summer Residence of the former rulers. Its
balconies and windows are overlooking the lake. This airy complex
has marble floors and granite columns. The gardens and fountains are
well laid and the rooms are well decorated. .Jag Niwas is now a
world famous hotel, called Lake Palace.
